SGS offers the freedom to customize your training program to fit your riding ability and schedule... Train with top Hunter, Jumper, Equitation professionals while boarding at SGS, one of the nicest show facilities in the Northern Virginia area. We offer customers and horses the absolute best in training and coaching from the Short Stirrup to the Jr/Am Hunters, the Mclay Finals or Grand Prix’s! Whatever your goals are, you can reach them at SGS.

Our riding philosophy and direction has led students to many successes. The trainers here have the experience to qualify you and/or your horse for VHSA Finals, Harrisburg, Devon or Washington. If year end awards are your goal, they can help guide you to VHSA, Zone or USEF year end awards or tri colors. If you prefer to focus on the Equitation divisions, they can help you on your way to local, regional or Big Eq titles. So whether you are trying to qualify for indoors, the Medal Maclay or just starting out your show career in the Short Stirrup division, SGS can help you reach your goals.

Training at StoneGate Stables (SGS) covers a wide variety of levels and options depending on the age, experience level and objectives of the rider. The basic lesson will cover the areas discussed between the trainer and the rider prior to beginning the lessonFor beginning riders the discussion and lesson will include learning about basic horse safety, horse care and management, safety, feeding, basic veterinary care, hoof care, grooming, saddling, leading the horse, riding exercises in the arena.

For intermediate and advanced riders the discussion and lesson will cover riding skills and the conditioning and performance of the horse as well as any horsecare issues of which the rider may be concerned. Lessons are geared to the individual rider’s ability and objectives.

For those that do now own their own horse or pony to lesson on, a student can chose to lease one for either the month (half or full leases available) or just for the day ("horse use fee"). If you are interested in purchasing or leasing, we will be happy to find the perfect horse or pony for you.
